FCnoise turned three in Miami this year. I started with deep research and a clear plan, and almost nothing happened the way I expected. These are the three lessons that survived: get in action, plan anyway, and learn every day.
If you are building something of your own, a company, a team, a community, I hope they save you some time. They cost me three years.
Lesson 1: Action finds the path
I knew everything I wanted. I had done a lot of research. And when I started, almost nothing from the initial plan worked. That was 2023:
- The audience was not interested in my original proposal.
- Brands did not want to sponsor those audiences.
- Venues preferred renting fields day by day over hosting a tournament at a lower rate.
But starting also revealed things no research could have shown me:
- The content we created was shaped by our new players.
- Executive experiences became one of our best offers.
- The Corporate Fútbol League went from an idea to the engine of our present.
- And we understood what we really are: a fútbol business agency.
Three years later, the same market that said no looks different. This month the CFL Finance Cup locked all eight team spots two weeks before kickoff, with J.P. Morgan, UBS, and Santander in the bracket. Brands like Miami DDA, Peroni, and GFiber power the league. None of that was in the original plan. All of it came from starting.
The path only shows itself to people who are already walking.
Lesson 2: Planning is underrated
It will never happen the way you planned it. Plan anyway: it is the biggest hack I know.
A plan gives you the structure to learn from what you are doing. You see what works and what does not, and most importantly, why. And when the unexpected shows up, and it always shows up, you can make it part of the structure you already built instead of drifting.
Planning is how you optimize for the unexpected.
Lesson 3: Learn every day
There are entire universes of knowledge from people better than you: books, podcasts, mentors, your own players. People who lived through more, and then spent years finding ways to share that wisdom. Open your mind and take it.
Study what you did: what worked, what did not, and why. Take notes, then go full throttle. And every time you get the chance to sit with someone valuable, ask. Shoot your questions. Ask them to explain their ways and their methods. It is the fastest way to see possibilities you cannot see alone.
Learning is how you take big leaps toward the dream.
Three years of FCnoise, and what I understand best is how much I do not know. But everything we have learned is the base to go for a bit more every day. This is the love of building the ultimate community through the love of fútbol.
